I didn’t know what to do, so I ran to find Claudia.

“You mean, you literally froze him in freeze tag?” she said.

“Um, maybe?”

“Lina! What are you going to do?”

“Well, the sun is out, so he’ll probably melt in a few minutes, but …”

Claudia gave me a look. It was a quit-dodging-the-question look. “I mean, what are you going to do about all this ice stuff? Do your mom and dad know what’s going on?”

“Not exactly …”

Out on the soccer field, Dylan’s ice blocks were melting into a muddy puddle. “My sneakers are getting dirty!” he whined.

“The science fair is in a week!” Claudia said. “Promise me you won’t get in trouble or mess anything else up before then. We have to win!”

I held out my pinkie to her. “Everything is going to be fine. I promise.”
